Friends!
Our little nugget is almost 5 months old and I'm just now posting his birth story. Oops!
Our first week home I decided to record myself talking and telling every little detail of the birth. I'll spare you from having to see my messy hair and tired voice. Trust me, it ain't pretty! But I love that I have a personal record of all the little details from my labor. It is so fun to go back and watch.
I thought I would share the first part of our journey the day we became parents!
March 16th, 36 weeks along:
I had my first cervical check to see how dilated and effaced I was. I had been having Braxton Hicks for months at this point, so I thought nothing of them. I always knew that dilation didn't mean much but effacement was more important when estimating a due date.
I was at 4cm and 60% effaced. SIXTY PERCENT!
The OB laughed and said "There is NO way you're going to make it to your due date, girl!" I panicked a little and barely heard her say "We'll start stripping your membranes next week."
A week! That was so soon to start inducing labor. Time was running out! I was excited and terrified.
I called my mom and told her all the details. I was in a slight panic. She assured me that everything would be okay. She had a plane ticket for the beginning of April just in case I delivered a week early. I was due April 10th. We almost changed her flight to try and get her here sooner based on how close I was to labor.
I walked around Target for a little while to pass the time and to help with the discomfort of the "Braxton Hicks" (which I would soon find out were not BH but actual contractions!)
That night, my mother in law, Debbie, and I went to go pick up sushi. We chatted with another lady there about her labor and contractions. She joked that she had no idea she was contracting until her friend pointed out she had been holding her belly every 3 minutes over and over again. Apparently I'd been doing the same thing! Debbie commented that I was holding my stomach in the car and at home that entire night. But that was just a coincidence. Right? :)
Thomas got home from work around 9. Tom, my father in law, joked that I was going to have the baby the next day. The running tradition in the family is that every member is born on a holiday. He told me I would have a St. Patrick's Day baby. I shook my tiny fist and told him he better not jinx me!
Thomas and I headed to bed around 10. Thomas, for the umpteenth time, asked me if I'd packed a hospital bag. I laughed and said "Bag shmag. I still have like a month left!"
I was laying down and chatting with Thomas. I felt and heard a loud POP!
