Patience and Puzzles

Today was an exciting day! I woke up this morning very refreshed and excited and a bit hyper, for no reason. Little did I know that today was going to be one of the most exciting days of my life! So far...

Thomas picked me up this morning to go to breakfast at Chick-Fil-A before work. We had to hurry there before they ended breakfast so we literally ran into the mall to catch the last few minutes of breakfast :)

We got to work a little early so we sat in the car and chatted for a bit. Mostly mushy "I love you" stuff, of course. I was still in a very good mood for no apparent reason.

Before I had to go inside, Thomas started giggling. I asked him why, and he told me I would find out soon. I didn't like that at all. I mean, I really didn't like it. I got frustrated and nagged him for a few minutes. He finally broke down and said "There's something for you inside." My impatience and nagging immediately ceased and I felt silly! Poor guy just wanted to surprise me.

I was totally expecting flowers, a little note, or something sweet (We often leave sweet notes, applesauce, and cute things in each other's cars).

When I walked into my office, sitting on my desk was a series of envelopes with times written on them and an empty puzzle frame.

I got there at around 11:30, so thankfully I only had to wait a short time to open the first.  Within each envelope were, yep, you guessed it! Puzzle pieces.

Waiting for the second envelope was easy because I was so distracted with work.  Waiting for the third and forth was absolute TORTURE! My boss Corey knew what was going on, but teased me all through out the day. Funny, Corey!

Little by little, I put the pieces together. Within each envelope was a little anecdote of the events of our courtship. A good friend of ours Josh is an amazing artist and drew a wonderful picture of each event. I have to confess, though. At around 5:30 I ripped open the last envelope to find that the last sentence of the story (that I had at that point...) was: "All that was needed now was a ring to declare their engagement..."

But...there was one piece missing! Thomas knows how much that drives me crazy, so it was perfect. In the beginning of our relationship, we did a lot of puzzles. He would surprise me with a new puzzle from time to time.

I WENT B A N A N A S! I still had two hours of work left. I went nuts. Yes, Corey, I still worked. ;) It was extremely hard to concentrate. My coworker Sami was there to help me focus and remind me to breathe. We were anxiously waiting for Thomas to make an appearance. I may or may not have been sitting next to the window periodically.

I joked with Sami about Thomas sitting in the parking lot before coming inside...and I was right! He told me later on that he got there a little early and waited around the corner before coming inside.  I know him so well!

The original plan was to go to dinner at Applebee's. It was kind of ironic because our first date was at Applebee's. We took a detour. Thomas said "I know it would drive you crazy if we didn't finish the puzzle, so let's go find the puzzle piece!" Uh...yes, please!

We made the trip up to the "Y" where we spent many nights talking and getting to know each other.  This is also the place where Thomas asked my father for his blessing. That was a fun night!

We forgot the puzzle in the car, so Thomas had me go back to the Jeep to get it so we could complete the puzzle. I needed just one last piece!

We sat on a rock overlooking Provo. The sun was starting to set and it was a gorgeous night. He sat down next to me and pulled out the last envelope. He gave me the final piece to the puzzle and then read a sweet, sweet ending (or beginning!) of the story to me. I started to cry as he choked up a little.  Okay, so I cried a lot! I threw my hands to my face.  It was the most exciting, surreal, and wonderful experience all in one! I was absolutely smitten!

He got down on one knee and said, "Jennifer Louise Potts, will you do me the incredible honor of being my wife?" I cried for a few seconds then said "Yes".

After a few more moments, I declared "Put that thing on my finger!" We kissed a lot and had our little moment.

As we sat there, Thomas glanced over his shoulder.  Hiding behind a car was Taylor!  I wasn't sure who it was at first, so I whispered, "Who is that?" and he told me it was Taylor and Jake! She had captured the moment! I loved that they were a part of it and got to witness such a special moment.  Thomas knew I didn't want a huge crowd or a very public place, so this was perfect for me.

We said hi to Taylor and Jake and they took a few more shots of our giddy smiles and excited laughter!

We got back to the Jeep and called our parents. I called my sisters, as well, and they were not surprised at all. "Dude, we knew it was coming. Mom and I have been planning the menu for the reception for weeks." Haha! "Send me pictures, you doofus!" They're so funny.

We journeyed to Applebee's and ate a delicious meal. I literally wanted to tell everyone and their mother that we were engaged! I can't wait for you all to meet him!

So, there it is. My side of the story! Blog post number two will feature Thomas' side! :)

Love,

Jenny and Thomas
