We Made it to Denver! (and Other Road Trip Ramblings)

We finally made it!

After 26 hours of driving, stopping for food and gas, flat tires, and sleep (so gross), we finally made it!

We flew Thomas's brother, Chris, into Salt Lake to help us move. He was really sweet and volunteered to help us on the drive. Honestly, without him, it would've taken 3 days to get here!

We loaded up my car, the Jeep, our JT Kettlers van, and a trailer. SO.MUCH.STUFFS.

The plan was to leave at 6 am on Wednesday. I knew that was pushing it, so I figured 10 am would be more of an attainable goal. Welp, 4 pm rolled around we left the house! Wahooo! But still had to make a few stops on the way out.

I've been pretty sick lately, so the long drive was pretty tough. It took us about 5 hours to go 200 miles. Talk about depressing. The van towing the trailer couldn't go very fast so we had to be cautious.

We drove through Wyoming to avoid the mountains. Wyoming is so boring.

It rained pretty much our entire drive. Actually, monsooned would be a better description. I could barely see Thomas and the trailer ahead of me. I call that headache driving!

It was getting pretty late, so Thomas found a motel for us to stay the night. Motel is being too nice. More like a dirty pit. I would've rather slept outside on the curb. Every single surface had stains. Not even exaggerating. Normally I am extremely germaphobic. I was so tired I didn't even care. From the cold linoleum floors (that I refused to walk on barefoot), yellow stained curtains, long jet black hair everywhere, and stained sheets and towels, I was mortified.

Honestly, I'm going to write an extremely sarcastic review online. I kept calling it the Ritz-Carlton. Stay tuned for that one!

We got back on the road. Only 5 more hours to go! Or so we thought. One of the van's tires exploded. It was the front left tire, which was better than a back tire holding the trailer, but bad as well. The van was still partially on the freeway, so the boys had to literally lie down on the road. It was around a curve on a hill, so I was super paranoid. We parked the Jeep a few yards back and I parked my car even further back so people had enough time to get over. Most did. I cursed the huge semi trucks that didn't! Jerks.

We actually broke down in the perfect spot. We'd just gotten out of a single lane that was under construction. It was about a 12 miles construction zone. Had we broken down on the single lane, we would've held up traffic for miles.

Another blessing was that less than a mile up the road was a service station that could fill up the spare tire.  That tire was gonna blow no matter what. We were just blessed that it happened in the perfect spot!

Finally, we were back on the road. We stopped a few more times to check the tire and give it a little more air. Thank goodness.

After 26 hours, lots of tried patience, and many stops, we made it.

But it wasn't over yet.

We unloaded what we needed and went to bed. Around 2 am my car alarm went off. Someone had broken into my car. It was even in the driveway.

My car is super old, so we guess they figured it wouldn't have an alarm. Joke was on them! We went outside and the door was wide open. It was probably the hoodlum kids down the street.

Welcome to Colorado!

Thomas and I stopped by Blue Cross and my plasma center yesterday in Denver. Kind of a scary place, not gonna lie. Denver not his workplace! ;)  But it was fun to see where he'll be working. I absolutely love my new plasma center! Everyone was really nice. Thomas and I talked with my new managers for about an hour. They seemed really excited to have me, and I was extremely happy to be there.

All in all, it wasn't a terrible trip. Honestly, it could've been way worse. We're happy to be here and can't wait for our new adventure!

Here are some pictures of our adventure.

Mmm. Stranger's hair

I would use a bar of soap then throw it away. No way was I washing my hands with soap that day on those counters!

Mmm. Jacuzzi!

I ripped that comforter right off the bed. You know they never wash those things!

Our fancy box TV.

Those floors and wood paneling! My favorite!

I mean it felt like it was from a horror more!

It ain't a road trip without peach rings and flat tires!

A sopping wet Thomas hopped in with me. I halfway sat on top of everything in my passenger seat and the emergency brake. So comfortable.

Whatcha gonna do?

Thomas looks thrilled!

I was dry. They were wet. Very wet. And freezing.

I had a few blankets in the car for the boys. Thomas wore one of my jackets. Picture that!

Classy!

The caravan!
