A New Job and Our Latest Adventures
Thomas stole my phone and changed the background photo. Isnt he the cutest? Ha! You're welcome, honey!
At first I was ecstatic! I was so proud of him. So proud. He was doing exactly what he wanted to do. And to travel is a big deal. But soon after, the reality of what traveling meant started sinking in. He would be gone 6 weeks with one flight back home to see us. For one weekend. So with travel time, about 24 hours. Not a fun thing for us.
The timing was perfect and also the worst. He would be traveling during the 4th of July holiday. My family had been planning a huge family vacation for over a year, but he needed to be at work. Thankfully, he was still able to sneak away to be with us for part of the vacation.
So far we've seen each other a lot in the last 5 weeks! More than I thought we would. Thankfully, my parents are in Florida only 5 hours away from where Thomas is staying in Columbus, GA. We decided to extend my flight another month so I could be within a drive from Thomas and not a plane ride. The perfect plan!
So far we've had a weekend at the beach, visited Aquatica park with my parents, and a few weekends of relaxing and enjoying each other's company. I was so sad knowing we'd have to be apart at times, but Thomas assured me that it would go by so fast. And it really has! I can't believe we all fly home this week and next.

Favorite part? Chasing the birds!
It has been so much fun to be back in my hometown for part of the trip. I've been able to see childhood friends and family for the first time in a very long time. Although, I will admit that I was super awkward at the grocery store. I was so worried I would run into someone and not remember their name. I know, awful. But I just zoomed around the store and bolted out!
We took the long way back home the other day so Thomas could show us his old schools, soccer fields, church buildings, and old friends' houses. He took us out to eat at a cute little country restaurant. The best fried green beans in the entire South, y'all. Hands down! Tonight, Thomas is taking me to go see the house he grew up in. It's so fun to watch him get so nostalgic. We'll also get to meet up with some of his old friends. Social media is so nice because we can feel like we know each other, but it has been so refreshing to chat with old friends, and new, in person. There's nothing like a sweet hug or a good cry with a friend.
One of the best parts about this trip has been time spent with my sweet mama. We are inseparable! I am so spoiled with her cooking and just overall friendship. It's so nice to travel together and talk in person and not just on the phone every day! I love my mama. I'm so bummed we won't see each other every day anymore, but we're already planning our next trip to see each other!
There have been a few times where Thomas and I didn't see each other for about 10 days. That's really hard sometimes, but this experience has been so rewarding. I know that distance makes the heart grow fonder, but it has made me love Thomas even more. And I had no idea that was even possible!
Last night we were driving for a couple hours with Lincoln sleeping in the back (I prayed for that! He's not loving all the travel these days.) and Thomas and I were just chatting. He is my best friend. We talked about an upcoming trip he surprised me with! We looked up the "Top 10" lists and figured out everything we wanted to do and see while we explored. It was so much fun to look forward to having a vacation together again! I am spoiled.
LOVING the car these days :(
If you know Thomas, he's a thinker. And if you know me, I'm a talker! It's the perfect balance! Haha! Thomas and I have always played the "What are you thinking?" game. Sometimes it's a boring answer, like "Nothing, just work." but other times it helps us strike up a really good conversation. I love it because I can sometimes his the wheels turning and I want to know what he's cooking up! Last night he told me about a story he wants to write. We started bouncing ideas off and it was hilarious. He was so clever and funny. He's always writing and thinking of really interesting stories. But now that we were doing something he loved, but together, it made me so excited. We were even joking about it while going to bed and stifling our laughter trying not to wake up Lincoln. I can't remember a time where I was happier than right in that moment.
Thomas has one more week of training and he heads back to Denver. I come back a few days later. It will be so nice to get back into the groove of our normal lives. It will be a luxury to see him EVERY day! I can't even begin to tell you how happy this makes me feel! We've had so much fun bouncing between states and cities these last few weeks, but we're ready to head back home soon.
A few photos from the trip!
How we're surviving.
Just one of the many "Come home soon!" photos I sent to Thomas. Single Momming, even if temporary, is so hard!
My mama made a cheesecake fluff with berries. I think I ate half of it.
Lincoln and I were catching lizards and I accidentally caught a Leopard Gecko! Thomas was heartbroken when I explained to him that, no, we could not take him home on the plane with us to Colorado... True story.
Lincoln is obsessed with all things mops, brooms, and vacuums. He's a snack and crumb monster, so might as well put him to work! ;)
Letting cousin Jettye wipe him down from head to toe
Church without dad is exhausting. For all!
