From the Ground Up
I am so incredibly in love with Thomas. Thomas took a few weeks off work for a minor surgery, so I've been spoiled with him at home. He is so amazing. Right this moment he is cleaning up the aftermath of a black marker incident. I'll just let you guess what my couch, the front door and basically half of my living room look like!
Thomas has helped with umpteen diapers, hanging out with Lincoln when I need a break, and just being my buddy. He's even sacrificing sleep to get Lincoln OUT of our bed! We've been awful and let Lincoln sleep with us. We were really good about having him sleep in his room for a few weeks, but it was so hard to spend 2+ hours apart each night. I used to nurse and rock Lincoln until he was almost asleep, then Thomas would come in and relieve me. But that meant not seeing each other most nights. We eventually gave up for awhile, but now that we're on 3 weeks of being weaned, Lincoln is OUTTA HERE! It has been really nice. We're not the best at routines, but this bedtime thing is worth it! Poor Thomas is scrunching himself up in the toddler bed with Lincoln. He sneaks out to get a few hours of sleep and then sneaks back in when Lincoln wakes up again. We're hoping the separation anxiety fades and he gets used to it full time. Sooner rather than later.
I think it has gotten better each night. but I'm not there to know! I still wake up when I hear Lincoln upset in his room, but Thomas is quick to comfort him. I'm hoping we can make this official soon! It's no fun sleeping alone, but it's mostly better than too many bodies in our bed! We promised ourselves the next kids won't get into the same habit, but we'll see! In the beginning it was just so easy for us to pull Lincoln from his crib and into our bed when he'd wake at night.
Thomas is advancing so quickly at work. Things are looking really good for him these days. I'm so proud of him. He was recognized during his yearly assessment as "Exceeds Expectations". 🙌🙌🙌 He had a presentation that his superiors enjoyed so much that he was asked to attend a couple more meetings and present it to their superiors. He'd never tell anyone this, and he probably won't love that I'm bragging on him, but I'm allowed! I'm the wife!
We are very comfortable and I don't have to work, so that is a huge bonus for all of us. I watch children at home for a little bit extra to contribute, but it's mostly play money for me! I am so fortunate to have someone so stable and responsible. He is so good at maintaining a budget. Homeboy has had a running Excel doc he has kept up with since we were ENGAGED almost 5 years ago. We literally have every financial detail of our past outlined. He's very intelligent and organized. I have never had to worry about bills or a roof over our head and I am so grateful. He's always looking and researching best deals, investments, and ways to save us money.
I get to raise our beautiful son and be with him 24/7. I've actually been a stay at home mom since I was newly pregnant with Lincoln. When we moved to Denver, I was about 8 weeks pregnant. I transferred my job to Denver, but that only lasted about a month or so. Long story short, they weren't giving me breaks and pressuring me to work 10 or 12 hour days. I put in my 2 weeks notice when the long hours and stress started taking a toll on my body. It wasn't worth it anymore. Thomas knew I was miserable and reminded me that I didn't need or have to work. I enjoyed my job a lot and didn't want to leave, but it was what ended up being best for me and my new pregnancy.
Now I get to enjoy being a stay at home mama! It's definitely still a job, but very relaxed! Haha. I can clean in my yoga pants and then take a nap, so I'd say I have a pretty sweet gig!
Thomas and I have built a foundation together. From the ground up! We were dirt poor college students when we met and got engaged and married. And I am SO grateful for that experience. I think being rich in love is so important. We could afford to buy groceries and Taco Tuesdays every now and then while newlyweds, but that was as fancy as we could afford. Our favorite thing to do was go thrifting for awesome books and board games! We had an awesome first apartment and filled it up with games quickly! We also had a knack for scoring free furniture, so we were able to furnish our house very quickly. Garage sales and estate sales were awesome as well.
I love thinking back and remembering sweet moments with him. From courtship to engagement to our first year together. So many wonderful memories and life changing events! I could not have imagined a better life for me. For us! We have been so blessed with a good life.
I'm still not sure where this sappy post stemmed from, but I am so grateful for my sweet husband and the beautiful life he helps provide! 💞
