Potty Learning with Lincoln: Unexpected Benefits

Image
Potty learning has been a lot of fun. We're not very far into it at all, but I'm still loving it. And so is Lincoln! Naps are almost always dry these days! AMAZING! Whoop! I try to keep up on the potty all day and keep it consistent, but that's not always easy to do. It's easiest at home, but harder when driving long distances. We still haven't braved a public restroom because gross. But I'm sure we'll do that eventually! One of the biggest blessings from doing this has been the lack or rashes. Lincoln had a chronic yeast issue for a LONG time. I'm talking 3 months straight. A few months before that we battled the yeast for about 2 months. It drove me crazy. The mom guilt was fierce. It was never uncomfortable for him and never spread around too much, but it still made me so frustrated. I felt so guilty at every single diaper change. Lincoln is staying dry most of the day. He still wets here and there, but is mostly on the potty. I also t...

Potty Learning with Lincoln: Catching on Quickly

Image
Lincoln caught onto potty learning WAY faster than I ever imagined. But with that comes a cost. Getting peed on! Haha! He rarely wets his diapers anymore and is picking up on potty learning like a champ! And we're less than a week in! Makeshift toy. Mom of the year, folks!   Boys love their freedom.  Lincoln, especially!  That cold Colorado air hits him and  BAM!  Pee! I've learned my lesson. I throw him onto the potty as soon as possible! Sometimes it takes him a few minutes to actually tinkle, but most of the time he goes within a few seconds. Going potty while we're not at home is still going well! He went poo at a friend's house today and it was awesome. Gross that I'm so excited, right? But that was one less poo dipe I even had to deal with cleaning up! Especially now that we're in cloth full time. Those are no fun. Lincoln took a really long nap today (super rare lately) and I put him right on the potty after waking up. He wen...

Potty Learning with Lincoln: Out and About

Image
Day 3 Potty learning at home is so simple, but what about while out and about? In public? Tea time on the potty!  When I was first inspired to put Lincoln on the potty, I tested it out the regular toilet first. Surprisingly, he did just fine! The position (knees above hips) gave him the urge to potty. Bravo, kid. Just today, while visiting family, I nursed Lincoln and put him straight on the potty without any sort of potty seat. Again, he tinkled quickly and with no problem at all. Pretty cool. Later on my BIL told me that he had a potty seat we could borrow while we were there. Even better! Except I almost got peed on! Hehehe. Mama is way too excited and Lincoln is just talking and singing away! Like I mentioned in previous posts, toys, water cups, singing songs, and talking to him are a great way to keep him happy on the potty. He's still really good at letting me know when he's over it and we take him right off. He's gettin...

Potty Learning with Lincoln: An Update

Image
It's day two of the crazy train and I'm so excited to report that we've had dry diapers for two days now! We normally use fitted cloth with a PUL liner, but those are a pain to take on and off all day, so lately we've been using pockets that a sweet friend gave to us. So not only are we only using 1 or 2 cloth diapers all day, but we're not having to spend anything! I followed the same pattern from my original plan. Sit him on the potty right when waking up, after naps, and after eating. So far we've been successful every time! I don't think he really needs that sip of water to trigger him to tinkle, but I think giving him little signals, letting the water and drinking help his body respond and keeping it consistent is key. Today, to trigger a poo and to keep him occupied on the potty, I offered baby cookies with his water. It kept him satisfied and happy. Toys are also a good distraction. I talk to him and sing songs so he has a few minutes to g...
