Potty Learning with Lincoln: Catching on Quickly
Lincoln caught onto potty learning WAY faster than I ever imagined. But with that comes a cost. Getting peed on! Haha! He rarely wets his diapers anymore and is picking up on potty learning like a champ! And we're less than a week in!
I've learned my lesson. I throw him onto the potty as soon as possible! Sometimes it takes him a few minutes to actually tinkle, but most of the time he goes within a few seconds.
Going potty while we're not at home is still going well! He went poo at a friend's house today and it was awesome. Gross that I'm so excited, right? But that was one less poo dipe I even had to deal with cleaning up! Especially now that we're in cloth full time. Those are no fun.
Lincoln took a really long nap today (super rare lately) and I put him right on the potty after waking up. He went very quickly, even on the big potty with no potty seat for his teeny toosh! His diaper was dry throughout his whole nap, as well! Winning!
In the end, I don't care when he officially goes potty on his own. I don't care if he's 3 or older when he can recognize he needs to go and walks to the bathroom and goes by himself. It is up to him. My biggest goal is to make potty learning FUN. I want him to gain that independence eventually, but it has to be on his own time. It will always be on his terms and not on mine.
A lot of family, friends, and moms on different groups I'm part of have been very skeptical. Some roll their eyes, some think I'm crazy, and some lecture me on the "risks" of doing this so early. Luckily my sweet husband, Thomas, is 100% on board. He fully supports my crazy (like starting cloth!) and backs me up. I love that I can do things a little out of the ordinary and Thomas is right beside me. Thanks, honey!
I didn't do this on a whim. I researched it. I talked to my best friends who have been doing EC and potty learning for many months and with multiple children. I looked up umpteen articles on the pros and cons of doing this. I am doing this for Lincoln and for our family. And at the end of the day, that's all that matters.
I love my life and my full time job as a mom. I love that I can stay home with my baby and go on this crazy adventure with him.
Who knows. Maybe I'll give up in a few weeks. Maybe tomorrow. No one is pressuring me to do this and no one will care if I give up. And that's okay.
A friend shared this article today, and I loved it! It helps explain what I'm doing very well.

Makeshift toy. Mom of the year, folks!
Boys love their freedom.
Lincoln, especially!
That cold Colorado air hits him and
BAM!
Pee!
