Potty Learning with Lincoln: An Update

It's day two of the crazy train and I'm so excited to report that we've had dry diapers for two days now!

We normally use fitted cloth with a PUL liner, but those are a pain to take on and off all day, so lately we've been using pockets that a sweet friend gave to us. So not only are we only using 1 or 2 cloth diapers all day, but we're not having to spend anything!

I followed the same pattern from my original plan. Sit him on the potty right when waking up, after naps, and after eating. So far we've been successful every time! I don't think he really needs that sip of water to trigger him to tinkle, but I think giving him little signals, letting the water and drinking help his body respond and keeping it consistent is key.

Today, to trigger a poo and to keep him occupied on the potty, I offered baby cookies with his water. It kept him satisfied and happy. Toys are also a good distraction. I talk to him and sing songs so he has a few minutes to go.

Lincoln was giving me the signal that he needed to poo after nursing tonight. After a few grunts, I jumped up and started unsnapping his diaper as I ran to the potty. I got him on just in time! I startled him at first, but he was okay. I think I was just so excited that he actually did it!

I know this is a really weird thing to be excited about, but I think it is amazing. I want it to be routine, the norm, and never scary. When he shows me that he's ready to potty train full time, even if it's when he's 2 or 3, then I will follow his lead.

I never want this to be a negative thing. If he even fusses the tiniest bit then I take him straight off. If he grabs my hands and starts to stand up then I know he's over it. I will be very careful in reading his mood and never, ever force it.

So far so good! I'm excited to do this out of curiosity. I know we're only 2 days in to this crazy life, but I'm excited every time he goes! Thanks, Link!
